This course provides an overview of the financial process in order to enable the non financial manager to discover more of the financial jigsaw and how the individual pieces of the jigsaw interrelate. The course will examine problems that are faced on a day to day basis and approaches finance as a management issue that can be successfully understood and utilised to make informed decisions.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the basic principles and terminology of finance
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the main financial statements, how they relate to one another and how they can be manipulated to derive useful management data
  • Differentiate between cash flow, profit and net worth
  • Appreciate budgeting as a planning and control tool
  • Differentiate between different types of cost and how costs can be controlled
  • Appreciate the financial implications of plans and decisions
