Master's degree in Molecular Medicine Back
Description
Aarhus University’s two-year Master’s degree programme in Molecular Medicine is open to students with a Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Medicine. Students who have a Bachelor’s degree in other similar subject areas are also permitted to apply for admission to the degree programme. In such cases an assessment will be performed to determine whether the degree programme in question is the equivalent of a Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Medicine.
The degree programme, which is based at the Faculty of Health Sciences, involves inter-faculty cooperation between the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Faculty of Science. Diabetes, cardio-vascular diseases, cancer, diseases of the brain and nervous system and arthritis affect a large proportion of the population. The Master’s degree programme includes teaching in the molecular mechanisms that have an impact on the development of these diseases; as well as teaching in their diagnosis, treatment and possible prevention. Teaching also focuses on the changes in cells and tissues that occur during such diseases. The teaching is organised by the Faculty of Health Sciences; but the teachers come from a variety of academic backgrounds, so both clinical issues and issues relating to molecular biology are included in the teaching. The most important part of the second year of the Master’s degree programme involves writing a thesis. The students carry out an independent research project under the supervision of a researcher.
This is an interdisciplinary degree programme, so there is a choice between carrying out the thesis at the Department of Molecular Biology, at one of the biomedical departments, or at one of the clinical research laboratories. You choose your own supervisor. During the Master’s degree programme you will be working alongside researchers and producing your own research results. This will teach you the main specialised activities and methods of the subject, and you will be a member of a network of researchers working on issues similar to those with which you are concerned.
