To address this problem the IMI European Medicines Research Training Network (EMTRAIN) has developed the on-course® portal. This portal will enable scientists to navigate the “jungle” of postgraduate courses, address education and training gaps/quality and enhance interaction between course seekers and course providers.

Proportion of Face-to-Face, Distance and Blended learning for master-taught and short courses (CPD)
The majority of masters-taught and short courses are Face-2-Face (classroom) learning, although short courses have a higher percentage of distance and blended learning (blended is a mix of F-2-F and DL). Distance learning courses are becoming more popular as they provide students with the opportunity to study from home at a time that is more flexible than Face-to-Face courses.
Credit distribution for master-taught and short courses
The UK and Ireland host master courses that are 1 year in length (3 semesters) and equivalent to 90 ECTS (180 UK credits). Most other countries in Europe host 2 year (4 semesters) masters courses and are 120 ECTS. Masters courses worth 60 ECTS are generally classed as advanced courses and require the student to already hold a masters level qualification or have substantial experience in the field being studied. A small number of master courses in Europe are worth 180 ECTS and can take several years to complete.
Short courses in contrast tend to be aimed at those already in work and are commonly known as continuing professional development (CPD) courses. The majority of these are worth between 10-20 ECTS.
